Japanese Breakfast Performs ‘Slide Tackle’ on Corden
Japanese Breakfast is back. The talented band performed “Slide Tackle” on The Late Late Show With James Corden on January 18.
Japanese Breakfast, the band fronted by Michelle Zauner, started their new year off with an appearance on The Late Late Show With James Corden. The indie band has performed on late-night shows such as Fallon and Kimmel, wowing audiences with their extraordinary performances.
Japanese Breakfast performed “Slide Tackle,” the fourth track off the Grammy-nominated record, Jubilee. After previously performing “Paprika,” the Jubilee opener, or “Be Sweet,” the energetic bop, “Slide Tackle” is much different from the two. In an interview with Stereogum, Zauner elaborates on what the track “Slide Tackle” is about. She reveals, “I liked the idea of literally grappling with your mind to force it into submission to feel joy. That was just one of those physical moves that I thought was a funny thing to think about, literally slide tackling your brain into submitting it to enjoy itself.”
Fans certainly felt the joy in the band’s incredible performance. Zauner gave a special shout-out to Landlady band for their epic sax solo featured in the performance.
It is an honor every time I get to be near @Landladyband ripping that sick sax solo !!! https://t.co/8pRoeZKQP4

In December, Zauner initially took to Instagram to share that her band would be ringing in the new year with another Jubilee performance. Unfortunately, James Corden tested positive for COVID-19, delaying the performance for two weeks. Zauner uploaded an image of her lying down in a ruffled yellow dress surrounded by persimmons. The yellow-themed palette and persimmons have become a staple to the Jubilee aesthetic.
The Jubilee era is not over yet. The record is nominated for Best Alternative Album at the Grammys. The band is also up for Best New Artist.
Congratulations to Japanese Breakfast on their incredible accolades. We cannot wait to see what they accomplish next. Be sure to stream Jubilee on all major music platforms.
