Taylor Swift Gets Vocal on New Damon Albarn Songwriting Comments
Taylor Swift responded on Twitter to comments made by Blur’s lead singer Damon Albarn that she doesn’t write her own lyrics.
In a quote tweet from an interview from Los Angeles Times with Albarn, she did not spare feelings. She wrote, “[Damon Albarn] I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this. I write ALL of my own songs. Your hot take is completely false and SO damaging. You don’t have to like my songs but it’s really [f-cked] up to try and discredit my writing. WOW.”
@DamonAlbarn I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this. I write ALL of my own songs. Your hot take is completely false and SO damaging. You don’t have to like my songs but it’s really fucked up to try and discredit my writing. WOW. https://t.co/t6GyXBU2Jd

The artist has always been open about her creative abilities. In an interview for Harper’s Bazaar in 2018, Swift opened up to Pattie Boyd about her songwriting process. She stated, “A lot of songwriting is things you learn, structure, and cultivating that skill, and knowing how to craft a song. But there are mystical, magical moments, inexplicable moments when an idea that is fully formed just pops into your head…It can get complicated on every other level, but the songwriting is still the same uncomplicated process it was when I was 12 years old writing songs in my room.”
i’ve never met damon albarn and he’s never been to my studio but apparently he knows more than the rest of us about all those songs taylor writes and brings in. herb.

Swift is fresh off the re-release of her 2012 hit album Red. She is well-known for her songwriting skills, with her COVID-19 era sister albums Folklore and evermore both being critically acclaimed in part due to her lyrical capabilities. After leaving her previous label, Swift decided to re-record her previous work, as the original masters were kept by her former management and recently sold.
I too, would be mad, if I worked as tirelessly and as hard as Taylor Swift and a man tried to discredit that work.

I totally agree with you. i had a conversation about songwriting and sadly it was reduced to clickbait. I apologise unreservedly and unconditionally. The last thing I would want to do is discredit your songwriting. I hope you understand. – Damon

In a reply to Swift, Albarn, who is also the songwriter for the band Gorillaz, apologized. He said in part, “I [apologize] unreservedly and unconditionally. The last thing I would want to do is discredit your songwriting.”
