Grimes to Release New Single Wednesday
Fans of Grimes, get your headphones and galactic makeup ready. The artist has revealed the cover art of her newest song, “Shinigami Eyes,” Monday morning.
The song was first teased in June 2021 on Grimes’s Discord account. But nothing was confirmed until Jan. 20 when the pop star first tweeted binary code, later revealed to be the track title “SHINIGAMI EYES JAN. 26.”
The news has left fans tweeting with anxious anticipation for the long-awaited single.

Can’t believe it took Grimes SEVEN months to release Shinigami Eyes, imagine how tired we are

This will be Grimes’s second single release after joining Columbia records following the split from her old label, 4AD.
The title “Shinigami Eyes” references both the popular anime “Death Note” and the browser extension of the same name, which lets internet users know which websites are transphobic or trans-friendly.
The title could be intentional for Grimes and explain the song’s theme. The Canadian singer could be referring to her ex, Elon Musk, and his transphobic comments regarding pronoun use.
Pronouns suck

This single is following the release of her song “Player of Games” back in Dec. 2021. Many speculate whether the song was about Musk whom she dated for three years and has a child with. The pair called it quits in Sept.
Fans are left guessing when Grimes will announce a release date for her upcoming album and are intrigued by the new era the artist has commenced.
