Stella McCartney Designs New Minnie Mouse Pantsuit
Minnie Mouse, one of Disney’s most beloved characters, has finally added a pantsuit to her wardrobe. The famous Disney character has been a global icon for film and fashion lovers everywhere for decades.
Minnie Mouse will be trading in her iconic red dress with polka dots and puffy sleeves for a more comfortable yet equally fashionable look: a dark blue and black pantsuit designed by British fashion designer Stella McCartney. Pantsuits gained widespread popularity beginning in the 1960s when fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent created “Le Smoking,” a movement that inspired androgynous fashion.

The pantsuit continues to be seen as a bold fashion statement for women today. McCartney spoke to D23 about creating the first pantsuit for Minnie Mouse. The designer still pays homage to Minnie’s signature polka dots and matching bow, but she decides to reimagine the look in a more progressive way regarding a women’s place in society. McCartney reveals, “I wanted Minnie to wear her very first pantsuit at Disneyland Paris, so I have designed one of my iconic costumes—a blue tuxedo—using responsibly sourced fabrics. This new take on her signature polka dots makes Minnie Mouse a symbol of progress for a new generation.”

McCartney is hopeful that her design worn by Minnie Mouse will inspire a new generation of women. Minnie Mouse will wear the stunning pantsuit to commemorate two special occasions: The 30th Anniversary of Disneyland Paris and International Women’s Day.
McCartney elaborated on her love of Minnie Mouse, sharing, “Minnie has always had a special place in my heart. We share the same values. What I love about Minnie is the fact that she embodies happiness, self-expression, authenticity, and that she inspires people of all ages around the world. Plus, she has such great style!”
