Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation has pledged $15 million to numerous organizations. The grants will be spread across 18 organizations, including the Climate Justice Alliance and the Black Feminist Fund.

Rihanna said in a statement, “Climate disasters, which are growing in frequency and intensity, do not impact all communities equally, with communities of color and island nations facing the brunt of climate change.” The grants were made in collaboration with Twitter founder Jack Dorsey and targeted groups that are women, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ run. Rihanna is from Barbados, an island country located in the Caribbean. The population is over 90 percent Black and has a higher likelihood of bearing the brunt of extreme weather events due to its location and size.

The Clara Lionel Foundation has raised over $80 million, has funded over 150 projects, and has impacted over 20 countries. In 2021, the Foundation partnered with #StartSmall and pledged $3 million to assist AAPI groups after increasing violent crimes against the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The world-renowned Barbadian pop star has been on an extended break from putting out music. Her critically-acclaimed 2016 album ANTI marked the last project she released. In recent years, her focus has shifted toward her business ventures.
