It’s still “Grease Lightning” for Paramount+. Paramount+ has released the news of a prequel series to the iconic musical Grease to premiere in 2022, Rise of the Pink Ladies.

The series will contain ten episodes and a wide variety of upcoming actors. This new cast includes characters Hazel (Shanel Bailey), Jane (Marisa Davila), Nancy (Tricia Fukuhara), Richie (Johnathan Nieves), Cynthia (Ari Notartomaso), Buddy (Jason Schmidt), Susan (Madison Thompson), Olivia (Cheyenne Isabel Wells), Wally (Maxwell Whittington-Cooper), and Asst. Principal McGee (Jackie Hoffman).

Fans are super excited to see Broadway star Jackie Hoffman join this cast of rising stars.

Though limited information about the show has been released, it is said to take place in 1954 (pre-Sandy and Danny) at the famous Rydell High School. The show will follow their characters, their relationships, and their rebellions against the school, ultimately leading to the creation of the Pink Ladies and the T-Birds.

Paramount+ describes the prequel, “[…]in 1954 before rock ‘n’ roll ruled, before the T-Birds were the coolest in the school, four fed-up, outcasts dare to have fun on their own terms, sparking a moral panic that will change Rydell High forever.”

Nicole Clemens, President of Paramount Television Studios & Paramount+ Original Scripted Series, spoke out on the reveal of the new show saying, “We are thrilled to unveil our new original series that will introduce an incredible cast of young stars in the making and electrifying musical numbers you will fall in love with. Annabel and Alethea [directors of Rise of the Pink Ladies] have managed to brilliantly capture the spirit of the iconic beloved classic film which like Rise of the Pink Ladies, is both set in the past but relevant to the present.”

Rise of the Pink Ladies has officially started production in Vancouver, but Paramount+ has not released any more information. The rising cast, vintage-ness, and overall love for the Rydell High students will make this a show to watch.
