NIKI Releases Heartwarming “Every Summertime” Valentine Edition Music Video
Inspired by “all the generational meet-cutes in history”, artist NIKI from 88rising releases a short-story film with her popular song “Every Summertime”.
The song was released as a soundtrack in the famous film Shang Chi (2021). NIKI released the video on Feb. 8 to commemorate Valentine’s Day as well.
The retro-themed short film “Every Summertime: A Love Story” is directed by Daniel Cloud Campos. It tells the story of a young couple in the 1970s on their anniversary and years through their love story. The short film also appreciates the mothers and fathers in Shang Chi.
The young couple in the video celebrates their anniversary by strolling through their old neighborhood. Campos had added in flashbacks of the couple falling in love. Later on, we see an old man dancing a beautifully choreographed dance at the iconic Chinatown Central Plaza. The dance sequence was created to commemorate the memory of his wife.
According to NIKI, the video was “inspired by Shang Chi’s mom and dad, our moms and dads, their moms and dads and all the generational meet-cutes in history that happened and could have been made into music videos – this is their story”.
“Every Summertime: A Love Story” is the fourth music video that the singer released. This time, she releases a special Valentine’s Day video that celebrates both love and family history. The first video was a visualizer featuring actor and rapper Dumbounfed and Minari star Alan Kim.
It was followed by a Marvel-inspired music video with the Indonesian singer-songwriter singing in a supermarket. Finally, an official video was released in December that showcases NIKI’s journey on going after her dream. A specific clip in the official video is inspired by the iconic Youtube LoFi Study Girl.
