A new Dave Chappelle stand-up special is coming to Netflix; Chappelle’s Home Team is a series of episodes starring different stand-up comedians handpicked by comedian Dave Chappelle, who is also an executive producer for the show. Chappelle’s Home Team will feature four comedians, one per episode.

The first standup comedian featured in the premiere episode is D.C.’s native comedian, Earthquake. Earthquake is known for his standup in HBO’s Def Comedy Jam and BET’s Comic View and specials such as These Ain’t Jokes and Walter Latham Presents. Earthquake has built a steady following over the years. With this feature, he is on the way to becoming a household name. The second comedian revealed for the special is Donnell Rawlings, a comedian best known for his recurring role in the Chappelle’s Show and was featured in the Netflix comedy special, The Degenerates. Rawlings has been building his comedic reputation over recent years.

In a statement made by Chappelle, he reveals, “I’ve been doing this a long time, and comedians like Quake and Donnell are not only friends but have inspired my career. Anyone in the comedy community knows these names and their long-overdue time to shine. I am proud to be a part of this moment.”

This October, Chappelle sparked controversy for his transgender comments in his Netflix special, The Closer. As a result, a few Netflix employees staged a walkout to protest the special.

In an interview with Variety, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos stated, “Obviously, I screwed up that internal communication…I did that, and I screwed it up in two ways. First and foremost, I should have led with a lot more humanity. Meaning I had a group of employees who were feeling pain and hurt from our decision. And I think that needs to be acknowledged upfront before you get into the nuts and bolts of anything. I didn’t do that.”

Chappelle and Netflix are still in the works of creating and producing the new project. Alongside Chappelle, Earthquake, Stan Lathan (Def Comedy Jam), Rikki Hughes (Sticks and Stones), and Jermaine Smith will also be executive producers. Stan Lathan will also direct the special.

The first episode of Chappelle’s Home Team premiered on February 28 on Netflix.
