Minka Kelly Refused to Do Nude Scenes in Euphoria

It’s no doubt that the HBO Max show Euphoria has plenty of nude scenes; however, actress Minka Kelly was not up for that debate. 

The actress shared that she refused to do nude scenes during her first day on the set of Euphoria. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Kelly described how the director, Sam Levinson, wanted her to be nude in a scene where Maddy (Alexa Demie) unzipped her gown. However, Kelly expressed she wasn’t comfortable. “That was my first day as a guest on this new show, and I just didn’t feel comfortable standing there naked,” the actress stated.

Kelly goes on to say that Levinson thought it would be more interesting if her dress fell to the ground, but she disagreed, stating, “I’d love to do this scene, but I think we can keep my dress on.” Kelly told Vanity Fair that Levinson was extremely understanding, and he was still able to capture the perfect shot and a beautiful scene between Kelly and Demie.

Kelly is not the only actress who has openly talked about her nudity scenes in the show. Chloe Cherry (Faye), Barbie Ferreira (Kat), and Sydney Sweeney (Cassie) also opened up about their nude scenes in Euphoria. In an interview with The Independent, Sweeney discussed whether she had ever been uncomfortable while shooting nude scenes. 

At least one #Euphoria sex scene involving Barbie Ferreira was cut from final version of an episode this season, @TheDailyBeast reports.

Sweeney did make note that there was an intimacy coordinator on set. However, she shared that there were moments where Cassie was supposed to be shirtless, and she’d tell Levinson that the nudity wasn’t necessary. Similar to Kelly’s situation, Levinson was supportive of her decision.
