New Film Olivia Rodrigo: Driving Home 2 U Premiering on Disney+

A year after Olivia Rodrigo released her debut album SOUR, she’s hitting the road in her latest Disney+ release Olivia Rodrigo: Driving Home 2 U. The film follows Rodrigo’s road trip from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles. Audience members exclusively share the writing and production memories held in Olivia Rodrigo’s SOUR album through documentary and narrative-style captures.

Exploring the story of her ​chart-topping album, SOUR, the documentary features intimate interviews and never-before-seen clips from ​making the record. The film also treats fans to new live arrangements of her songs performed in unique locations, including Mojave Airplane Boneyard, Roy’s Motel & Café, Arcosanti​,​ and the Red Rock Canyon State Park. The film will also include special guest performances and appearances by Jacob Collier, Blu DeTiger ​, ​and Towa Bird.

According to a press release, Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, stated, “This is a unique film experience where for the first-time fans will understand how her album came to be and why it was such a personal journey for Olivia,” said Davis “This is not a concert film per se, but really, an opportunity to experience first-hand how Olivia Rodrigo became one of the biggest music stars of the day — and a chance to see her perform the songs from SOUR like never before.”

Fans wait for an insider look into the album’s making. While Olivia Rodrigo, herself, is ready for a booked and busy 2022, with the likes of her SOUR Tour, not to mention her Grammy Award nominations. The Recording Academy nominated the “Brutal” singer for a whopping seven Grammys. Of the seven, Rodrigo is up for the ‘big three’ (Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Album of the Year) and Best New Artist.

Rodrigo discusses the overnight success of her debut LP with Alanis Morisette in Rolling Stone’s Musicians on Musicians issue.

“Putting out music in the age of social media can be really daunting, and I think people hold young women to an incredibly unrealistic standard. I’ve taken the same route as you have and just don’t look at it,” Rodrigo stated. “I don’t think anyone is meant to look at that stuff. I don’t think we as human beings are supposed to know what thousands of people think about what we wore or what we said, or how we talk. I think having that separation is really important — realizing that that’s not real life, you know what I mean? That world that is created online, it’s just one facet of this very big human existence.”
