Amanda Bynes Files New Petition to End Conservatorship
Former actress and child star Amanda Bynes is officially seeking to end her conservatorship after nine years. On Wednesday, the 35-year-old Easy A star filed documents requesting to terminate the conservatorship of her person and her estate at California’s Ventura Superior Court, according to an exclusive report by Page Six.
Bynes also filed a capacity declaration — a California-specific conservatorship form completed by a medical professional before the initial hearing — on Tuesday. The capacity declaration ensures that all of the conservatee’s medical records are up-to-date before moving forward with the hearing.

The She’s the Man lead was placed under conservatorship back in August 2013, after she was hospitalized on a psychiatric hold for allegedly starting a fire in an elderly woman’s driveway. She was 24 then, and her mother Lynn was granted full control of her daughter’s financial and personal affairs.
Nine years later, Bynes and her lawyer David A. Esquibias believe it is time for the 2000’s Nickelodeon star to regain control of her life.

“Amanda wishes to terminate her conservatorship,” Esquibias told People. “She believes her condition is improved and protection of the court is no longer necessary.”
Her mother agrees. Bynes’ attorney Tamar Arminak reveals, “Lynn is so proud of her for all the hard work and progress Amanda has made, and she supports Amanda’s petition to terminate the conservatorship.”

A report outlining the status of Bynes’ health was approved by the court last September, with an update set for January 2023. This prompted a slew of false reports claiming her conservatorship had been extended until 2023. Esquibias, however, set the record straight. “It is open day to day,” he stated, “Her conservatorship will terminate when it is no longer convenient for Amanda.”
With her March 22 court hearing right around the corner, stay tuned for updates regarding the status of Amanda Bynes’ historic conservatorship case.
