The twenty-nine-year-old Spanish pop singer Rosalía is set to release her third studio album, MOTOMAMI, on March 18. This album will show fans a whole new side of her.

Her past two albums, Los Angeles and El Mal Querer were primarily inspired by the 13th-century novel Flamenco. Rosalía was celebrated for bringing to life the flamenco style and adding a modern touch to it.

With her new album MOTOMAMI, she brings in a sense of humor. She shared to i-D Magazine, “In my other projects, I didn’t allow a sense of humor. ‘Hentai’ is much more suggestive, much more erotic for me…and why not talk about something like that as an inspiration for a song?”

Rosalía teased “Hentai” from her upcoming album on TikTok to her 15.9 million followers. A fan tweeted Rosalía’s TikTok Video with the caption, “It took me a while to find the video, my God, long live Rosalia and her great hit hentai.”

Although she has twenty singles and two studio albums, Rosalía enjoys keeping her life private. With MOTOMAMI, she shares a glimpse of herself. “When you get to know someone, you don’t know that person instantly. It takes time,” she stated to i-D Magazine. “Little by little, people are going to see more of who I am. I haven’t shown all my sides. I have no rush for people to understand me as a musician.”

Rosalía graduated from Barcelona’s Catalonia College of Music, where she studied flamenco and music production. Her first album Los Angeles was her graduate thesis. Her second album El Mal Querer won three times platinum and became the most-streamed album in the history of Spotify Spain. “Di Mi Nombre” was her first song to reach the top of the Spanish charts.

“I feel like it took me a long time to figure out who I am and what my music is and what I want to do. It happened overnight from a marketing perspective, but that doesn’t mean I wasn’t working towards that moment. My parents were not connected at all to the industry. It was starting from zero,” Rosalía shared.

MOTOMAMI took three years to write and record. Rosalía stated, “I had to take my time with this album, to wait until I could reconnect with the energy that allows me to create.” The album is full of heartbreak, fame, sex, and hectic energy.

MOTOMAMI is due to be released on March 18 on all platforms.
