When the Twilight alum and High Fidelity actress first auditioned for their respective roles in October 2019, Kravitz described the chemistry read as “really intense.” “There could be a lot going on in a scene, but if I was able to connect with Rob and look into his eyes, it would immediately bring me into the moment,” Kravitz recalled. “I saw a look in his eye that I hadn’t seen before. Seeing something new and very vulnerable as well was really beautiful.”

Pattinson had a slightly different experience. Despite having already secured the part, he never actually read from the script until his screen test with Zöe. Uncomfortable and anxious in his overly tight Batsuit, Pattinson replayed the day’s events to Entertainment Weekly. “The camera’s not even on me, it’s on the back of my head,” he recalled. “And I’m literally having this major panic attack, just looking for emotional support from Zoë, who’s trying to get the part.”

That was over two years ago, but the bond between The Bat and The Cat has only grown stronger. The cover of Wonderland’s latest issue features the duo clad in leather and latex, limbs intertwined, gazing daringly at the camera. Not to forget, Kravitz’s solo cover, with her sky-high cheekbones and seductive glare, and Pattinson’s solo cover, with his furrowed brow and surprised glance. Then, there’s the subsequent collection of provocative images that sparked #bipanic across the internet.

With undeniable chemistry on camera, one can only imagine the pair’s chemistry on film. However, with The Batman now playing in theaters everywhere, there’s no need to imagine.
