Ariel Winter Replaces Demi Lovato in New Series Hungry
Ariel Winter is set to take Demi Lovato’s place in NBC’s new TV sitcom, Hungry. The Modern Family alumni, 24, will be the show’s new lead.
Lovato was originally both starring and producing the comedy series. Due to a conflict of scheduling, Lovato stepped down but is still able to executive produce. Winter was able to pick up the mantel and is now the main star.
Winter took to Instagram to express her excitement for this new role: “I am SO EXCITED to join the ‘Hungry’ fam. I love this show and everyone involved so I couldn’t be happier or more ready to get to work. Guess you could say I’m hungry lol. (Cringe) puns aside, I want to say a special thank you to the beyond lovely @jeffgreenbergcd for championing me and giving me the opportunity to be included in something special once again. Thank you Jeff & Allen, the whole Hungry team, @nbc and my team. I’m just filled with gratitude.”
The series was first announced in January 2021 and has been in the works since then. The comedy was set to start filming the pilot on March 4, 2022, but was put on pause due to Lovato stepping down. The network acted quickly, hiring Winter in order to stay on schedule. The series’ first table read is supposed to be taking place on March 8.

The comedy revolves around a group of friends who are a part of a group that struggles with their relationship with food. The friends lean on and help each other out as they seek out love and success while battling their issues. Winter took over the role of Teddy, a food stylist juggling her issues with food and love life. Other cast members include Valerie Bertinelli, Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias, Ryan McPartlin, Alex Brightman, and Ashley D. Kelley.

So far, the air date is unknown. While fans wait for more details, Modern Family can be streamed on Hulu.
