Pamela Anderson Cast as Roxie Hart in New Broadway Adaptation of Chicago
Get ready now, because the name on everybody’s lips is gonna be… Pamela. The Baywatch alum is making her Broadway debut as the iconic Roxie Hart.
Pamela Anderson has some big shoes to fill live from New York. The Barb Wire actress is stepping into her dream role as Roxie Hart. The list of women who have embodied the antiheroine includes Gwen Verdon, Ann Reinking, Brooke Shields, Ashlee Simpson, and Melanie Griffith.
Apart from the Broadway shows, arguably the most famous adaptation is the 2002 film by Robert Marshall that starred Renée Zellweger as Roxie Hart and Catherine Zeta-Jones as Velma Kelly. Chicago went on to receive critical acclaim, winning the Oscar for Best Picture at the 75th Annual Academy Awards. Zellweger took home the Golden Globe for Best Actress, and Zeta-Jones won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Queen Latifah was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Mama Morton.
Christine Baranski, Ekaterina Chtchelkanova, Taye Diggs, Denise Faye, Richard Gere, Deidre Goodwin, Queen Latifah, Lucy Liu, Susan Misner, Mýa, John C. Reilly, Chita Rivera, and Dominic West were the supporting cast.
Anderson being cast as Roxie Hart has the actress incredibly excited. She expresses in a statement, “I have always been a huge fan of Bob Fosse’s and Gwen Verdon’s work. Ann Reinking, too. Playing Roxie Hart is a dream fulfilled. Performing Fosse, you don’t have time to get in your head. You can’t dance, sing and think at the same time. There is a freedom, a unique joy in knowing it’s all about the work. Playing Roxie Hart is a sweet escape for me.”

This announcement comes just days after Netflix shared that the Home Improvement star would be telling her story in an upcoming documentary.
