The “Don’t Say Gay” bill also known as “Parental Rights in Education” (HB 1557) bans the teaching of sexual orientation and gender identity in public schools. This piece of legislation was passed in the Republican majority senate. It is expected to be signed by Governor DeSantis, who has expressed his support for the bill many times. The bill will go into effect on July 1.
Many celebrities like Kerry Washington and Kate Mckinnon shared their disdain for the hateful new law. Fans are proud of the Pickering native for taking the initiative to speak out.
Shawn Mendes chose to speak up and defend gay rights with the issue happening in Florida even though the internet constantly has something to say about his sexual identity with countless jokes and comments. He could’ve stayed quiet but he spoke up anyways. I adore him.

Horrified by what is happening in Florida. Children deserve to be who they want to be. To be their true selves. If there was ever a time to register to vote, it is now. https://t.co/xIxibcBigs
