Claire Danes and Tom Hiddleston Star In New Apple TV Series The Essex Serpent
AppleTV+ has announced an upcoming limited television series: The Essex Serpent. The first two of the six-episode series premieres on Friday, May 13. Claire Danes and Tom Hiddleston are attached to star in the series.
The show is adapted from the 2016 novel of the same name by British author Sarah Perry. The series synopsis reads: “The Essex Serpent follows London widow Cora Seaborne (Danes) who moves to Essex to investigate reports of a mythical serpent. She forms an unlikely bond with the village vicar (Hiddleston), but when tragedy strikes, locals accuse her of attracting the creature.”

Danes and Hiddleston lead the cast and are supported by Frank Dillane, Dixie Egerickx, Michael Jibson, Clémence Poésy, Hayley Squires, and Jamael Westman. Clio Barnard (The Arbor) is directing, and BAFTA-nominee Anna Symon wrote the six-part limited series.
Barnard and Symon will also serve as executive producers on The Essex Serpent alongside Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, and Patrick Walters. The series is produced for Apple TV+ by See-Saw Films. The series producer is Andrea Cornwell.

The Essex Serpent is one of many exciting series coming to light this year. WeCrashed and Pachinko arrive this month. WeCrashed, a new limited series starring Academy Award-winners Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway, is premiering this Friday, March 18. Pachinko, the Korean, Japanese, and English-language drama based on the novel by the same name by Min Jin Lee, will premiere globally on Apple TV+ on March 25.
