Christina Ricci to Star in New Netflix Series, Wednesday
Christina Ricci, most notably known for capturing hearts as Wednesday Addams, is officially joining the Netflix hit series, Wednesday. Although she is not reprising her signature role, her new character promises to be exciting.
Tim Burton’s live-action show, Wednesday, announced a familiar face joining The Addams Family franchise on March 21: Christina Ricci. The actress is attached to the titular character, but is said to have a much different, yet prominent role in the series.

The Fallout actress, Jenny Ortega, stars as the show’s lead. Catherine Zeta-Jones is stepping into the role of Wednesday’s mother, Morticia, famously played by Anjelica Huston. She took to Instagram to share that she has “channeled Morticia Addams many times in my life.” She adds that she is thrilled to be reuniting with former Traffic co-star, Luis Guzmán, who is cast as her husband, Gomez Addams.
Ricci’s surprise arrival comes after Thora Birch’s exit. Deadline was first to report that Ricci’s role will be “similar to the one originally played by Birch and will replace it on the show.”
Netflix reveals that Wednesday is “a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday’s years as a student at the peculiar Nevermore Academy.” The synopsis states that she will attempt to master her “emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago – all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships with the strange and diverse student body.”
Many different versions of The Addams Family have been adapted onto the big screen, but no adaptation has reached critical acclaim like the Barry Sonnenfeld-directed 1991 film. Anjelica Huston and the late Raúl Juliá delivered memorable performances as goth couple Morticia and Gomez, capturing fans’ hearts with their enduring and passionate love for one another. Ricci’s role as Wednesday is equally iconic, as her portrayal still holds up in film today.
