Jillian Rose Banks, mononymous as Banks, shared an emotional song and accompanying music video with fans on March 21. The track illustrates a different side of the singer, but for her, this is not a new song. She tells ELLE that she wrote the tender track “at least six [or] seven years ago before anything happened with my career.”

As fans have probably guessed, “I Still Love You” is about a failed past relationship. Banks adds that the song’s message is “timeless” and “universal.” It is undoubtedly a relatable track, especially when it comes to first loves. She proclaims, “Who hasn’t continued to care for someone after a breakup? It’s more of a feeling that every human experiences.”

Banks’ music video, shot in LA by friend James Mountford, is simple yet equally elegant. The singer is seen in a sun-soaked studio, where she pours her heart into the camera. She lets her hair down and is wearing white lingerie. The music video is heartbreaking to watch, and her dizzying arrangement quickly hypnotizes fans.

“I Still Love You” is one of her favorite songs she has ever written. She reveals of protecting the song’s importance, “I just never wanted to put it on an album. I always wanted to keep it to myself. It was almost like it meant so much to me that I didn’t want to put it out because it deserves so much.” We could not be more grateful for this vulnerable track.

“I Still Love You” closes Serpentina, marking a full-circle moment for the singer. She vocalizes that the track is “an ode to where songwriting for me started, just on my own, for myself.” Serpentina is out in the world on April 8. Fans can pre-order the album now.
