The keynote address, moderated by Angela Yee from The Breakfast Club, featured many important topics, including transgender rights, body positivity, and much more.

When discussing her new reality show, the pop star addressed the importance of body inclusivity in television and the obstacles that plus-sized women constantly face. Lizzo noted that she wanted to bring a different story, unlike many reality competition shows.

In the interview, Lizzo states, “It was important that I change the narrative of what a reality competition TV show looks like. We don’t always have to be cruel. We can be kind and we don’t have to pit people against each other. I feel like it’s hard enough the dance world already for girls who look like me, so why would I create that environment in my space? If I have the power to change that, why not change that?”

Lizzo has become a major advocate for trans rights, women’s rights, and body inclusivity. She recently spoke out against Texas’ abortion laws and policies regarding transgender youth. Though her frustration was aimed towards the policymakers creating and passing these laws, Lizzo also made sure to hold her fellow artists accountable who were reluctant to speak for change. She states, “What we do, we’re a conduit for the people. We represent for the people and we put it on a platform….hopefully I can do my small part to speak for the people, represent, and just keep pushing.”

While most of Lizzo’s keynote address focused on her journey to making Hollywood and television more inclusive for women who look like her, she also included her daily self-love exercise she conducted with the audience. She also mentioned her new upcoming album, which we can hope to hear more about soon.
