Michael B. Jordan and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Partner Up in New Amazon Thriller
A new Amazon Studios thriller, I Helped Destroy People, is in the works and will involve Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (The Matrix: Resurrections). The film will be based on a New York Times article by the same name.
Jordan will be working behind the scenes as a producer for the movie, and Abdul-Mateen II will star as the lead character and also produce alongside Jordan with his company, House Eleven10.
“There is this mythology surrounding the war on terrorism…that has given agents the power to ruin the lives of completely innocent people… And I did that. I helped destroy people. For 17 years.” – Terry Albury

This sounds GOOD. https://t.co/skWrcfoxUz
The thriller is based on a New York Times article with the same name, written by Janet Reitman. The story focuses on the career of Ted Albury, “an idealistic F.B.I. agent [who] grew […] disillusioned by the war on terror.” As a result, Albury disclosed classified governmental documents, which led to his imprisonment under the Espionage Act. You can read more about Ted Albury in the New York Times article here.
While the film is still under production, screenwriter Ben Watkins (Hand of God) will be scripting the film, and Elizabeth Raposo and Jordan will be producing under Outlier Company.
Jordan is currently directing and starring in his upcoming film, Creed III, where he will reprise his iconic character, Adonis Jordan.
Abdul-Mateen II has finished filming with Jake Gyllenhaal (The Guilty) in an action film called Ambulance (in theaters April 8). The actor is also working on his role as Black Manta in the upcoming D.C. film, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which is expected to be released sometime in 2023.
If you haven’t read the @nytimes article I helped destroy people.

Go read it. It’s eye opening and a reminder that this government is not and never was for people of color.
The racism at the FBI was clearly on the display. And it needed to be.
