Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott has recently made a sizeable donation of 275 million to Planned Parenthood. This is considered one of the largest donations Planned Parenthood received from a single donor.

In a statement announcing the news of the donation, the CEO and president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Alexis McGill Johnson, commented, “We are incredibly grateful for Ms. Scott’s extraordinary philanthropic investment in Planned Parenthood, as a critical part of the public health infrastructure. There is no question that we live through a crisis for sexual and reproductive health and rights in this country. As we face the most serious attacks on access to reproductive health care that we’ve seen in a generation, we know this moment requires us to be innovative and double down on our efforts to ensure everyone has equitable access to health care, including abortion.”

The donation is said to go towards health equity for all kinds of patients, with the ultimate goal of eliminating racial and structural barriers.

In the past few months, Scott has announced in her blog that she has donated nearly 4 billion dollars to 465 nonprofit organizations that range from climate change, youth help, women’s health and more.

A few years ago, Scott joined a pledge initiative with Bill Gates and Warren Buffet called the Giving Pledge, where billionaires will donate most of their money to charities.

Through this organization, Scott has made a few sizable donations to the following charities and more: Boys & Girls Clubs of America, CARE, ClimateWorks Foundation, Code for America, FoodCorps, Guttmacher Institute, Habitat for Humanity International, National Council on Aging, National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center, National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice, Vera Institute of Justice, Wounded Warrior Project, and Young People in Recovery. We applaud MacKenzie Scott for her charitable donations to those who need help and can’t wait to see what she does in the future.
