How to Get the Look: Gothic Glam Edition

Trends come and go, but goth is forever... At least, that's what we told our parents in middle school before dragging them into Hot Topic. Gothic makeup is the newest wave in the Y2K revival and can be as glam or edgy as your nostalgic heart desires. We listed plenty of inspiration below and the products needed to prove it wasn't a phase.

Thin Brows

While full brows have had the spotlight the past couple of years, thin brows are making a comeback. Micro brows were everything in the ’90s through the 2000s. Twenty years later, the look proves to be timeless, making chunky highlights look chic. Rico Nasty’s thin and pristine brows created by her makeup artist, Dee, tie the all too familiar smoky eye and ombre lip combo together.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz ($23)

Instead of shaving the tails of your brows, break out a glue stick and concealer. Coat the brows with the glue, swipe the hairs in an upward direction, and repeat. Then, get a non-drying full coverage concealer or foundation to cover the brows. Set with powder, and voila! You have no brows. If you want ultra-thin brows, simply trace them out with a pencil—Anastasia Beverly Hill’s Brow Wiz ($23) is a classic—or you can use a brow gel for a more natural look.

Glittered Gaze

Effortless glam is also trending, which might sound like a contradiction, but stay with us… There’s something so alluring about sharp eyeliner paired with applied haphazardly glitter, and Euphoria makeup artist Alexandra French understood the assignment. Recreate the look on the low with the liquid eyeshadow from e.l.f Cosmetics. They have eleven dazzling shades, and Disco Queen is the perfect sparkly topper for any shadow. In true e.l.f. style, the liquid shadows are only $6 a pop.

Vampy Glam

Monochromatic makeup is so simple yet so elegant. Willow Smith went for a stunning all-red look, blending the bold color into the inner corners of her eyes and on her lips. MAC Cosmetics Powder Kiss Lipstick in the shade You’re Buggin’, Lady ($22) is perfect for a bitten red and can be layered for more opaque coverage. Then, all you need is a pop of shadow for the eyes, mascara, and maybe some lashes if you’re feeling it.

’90s Lip Liner

Rihanna embodied gothic glamour for the Savage X Fenty Valentine’s shoot. She paired a smoky neutral eye with a sultry ombre lip. Of course, RiRi was decked out in Fenty everything but can easily be created by blending any brown lipliner—NYX has the best affordable liners for only $4—with a lighter neutral lip shade. She used the coveted Gloss Bomb Heat ($24) from Fenty Beauty in the shade Lavender Savage. And the raccoon tail hair? Iconic.
