Ariana DeBose Joins New Rom-Com Two And Only
Ariana DeBose has landed her latest acting role fresh off her historic Oscar win for Best Supporting Actress as Anita in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story.
It has been a whirlwind couple of months for Ariana DeBose. The talented actress, dancer, and singer swept this past awards season and even made history as the first openly queer woman of color to win an Academy Award.
DeBose remains booked and busy, as she recently revealed her latest endeavor: a rom-com. She took to Twitter to write, “Let’s try a rom-com! So excited to take on a new challenge and learn a thing or two about producing.” She will serve as an executive producer for Screen Gems’ latest project.

So excited to take on a new challenge and learn a thing or two about producing.
Thrilled to be a part of this incredible team including Jen Rivas-DeLoose, Screen Gems’ Scott Strauss and @kgisellej and Sad Unicorn’s Randall Einhorn and Jeremy Stern! https://t.co/BUrSWkkOmE
The rom-com already has a name and an exciting twist. Screen Gems’ Two And Only is described as “My Best Friend’s Wedding with a bisexual Latinx POV.” Jen Rivas-DeLoose, a prominent Latina and LGBTQ+ writer, is penning the screenplay. Sad Unicorn’s Randall Einhorn and Jeremy Stern are producing, and Scott Strauss and Giselle Johnson will oversee the project.
My Best Friend’s Wedding was a 1997 rom-com that starred Cameron Diaz, Rupert Everett, Dermot Mulroney, and Julia Roberts. The film’s premise reads: “When a woman’s long-time friend reveals he’s engaged, she realizes she loves him herself and sets out to get him with only days before the wedding.” The film will celebrate its iconic twenty-five-year anniversary in June.
