Issa Rae and Michael Cera Join the Barbie Movie
Life in plastic is just so fantastic that Issa Rae and Michael Cera had to join the fun. The two will be joining the cast of the live-action Barbie movie.
It was announced in 2019 that a new Barbie film would be underway with Greta Gerwig as the director. She will also be co-writing the script with her husband, Noah Baumbach, who won the Oscar for his screenplay for Marriage Story.
The Insecure actress and Superbad actor will only be adding to the already star-studded cast list. So far Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are slated to play Barbie and Ken. America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, Alexandra Shipp, Ariana Greenblatt, Emma Mackey, and Will Ferrell have also signed on. This addition leaves fans curious, yet excited for what’s to come.

The plot of the highly anticipated film has been kept under wraps thus far, but according to Robbie, it’s exactly the opposite of what you’re thinking. She told The Hollywood Reporter, “The name itself, people immediately have an idea of, ‘Oh, Margot is playing Barbie, I know what that is,’ but our goal is to be like, ‘Whatever you’re thinking, we’re going to give you something totally different — the thing you didn’t know you wanted…’”
The Blonde-tastic film is expected to have its theatrical release date in 2023.
