LE SSERAFIM Emerges as First Girl Group Under HYBE
LE SSERAFIM will be big. As HYBE and Source Music’s first-ever girl group, other than Big Hit Entertainment’s GLAM in 2012, the company is taking its debut above and beyond.
Throughout the month of March, the girls’ member introductions began to trickle into the music scene with short, stylistic clips, each focusing on a specific aspect of the girls’ personalities. There will be six members debuting in total, some of which are familiar faces: Kim Chaewon, Miyawaki Sakura, Huh Yunjin, Nakamura Kazuha, Kim Garam, and Hong Eunchae.
This time, HYBE is not debuting a complete set of fresh members—Chaewon and Sakura were both a part of the massively successful girl group IZ*ONE which came about from the Mnet survival show Produce 48. In addition, Yunjin was a participant in that show and is also well-recognized in the K-pop world. With these experienced artists in hand, the group presents themselves with a confident and bold look.
The group’s 1st mini-album, FEARLESS, displays a model-like concept based on the current content. On April 10, the group’s YouTube channel came out with LE SSERAFIM 2022 “FEARLESS” SHOW, which presents the girls as confident runway models. This new spin has fans on their toes, speculating what the members will have to offer at their debut showcase.
They are set to debut on May 2, with their promotional schedule beginning on April 18 by dropping the group’s concept teaser. Fans expect great things from them as many talented people work with the girls for this debut. Namely, Bang Si-hyuk, the current chairman of HYBE Corporations, will be the head producer for this release. So far, everything is up in the air, especially since HYBE is well-known for creating innovative and experimental types of music. Source Music has also worked closely with many girl groups over the years, so LE SSERAFIM is sure to make a splash in the fabric of recent K-pop music.
The group is undoubtedly taking a more artistic route in every aspect, from their name to the cinematography of their short films to their unique concept. Although K-pop has been grounded in its pop-influenced roots, they also incorporate intricate dance moves into every performance. It seems as though LE SSERAFIM is taking a different approach by stepping back and embracing a minimalistic style.

In fact, K-pop as a whole has been approaching its music and promotions with a more art-driven view. Since most comebacks are much more than just songs and music videos (they incorporate well-designed albums, stage outfits, concept films, etc.), it is no shock to see companies twist each and every debut in another direction—this genre is certainly ever-changing.
Each member has their own specialty to add to the table. They are all looking forward to finally spreading their wings in the spotlight and offering something new to the growing expanse of K-pop music.
Finally, IZ*ONE fans have been waiting for Chaewon and Sakura to enter the scene again. Other former IZ*ONE members have found success in their music journeys: Kwon Eunbi’s “Door,” Jo Yuri’s “GLASSY,” IVE’s (Jang Wonyoung and An Yujin) “ELEVEN,” and Choi Yena’s “SMILEY.” LE SSERAFIM is guaranteed to be another hit, and we are waiting anxiously for their debut.
Keep with LE SSERAFIM’s pre-debut activity on their Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube accounts.
