The Weeknd’s New Series The Idol Undergoes Major Changes
The Weeknd’s new series, The Idol, will be pushed back to undergo major changes. According to HBO, the drama was already filmed but will be redone due to creative differences.
“The Idol’s creative team continues to build, refine, and evolve their vision for the show, and they have aligned on a new creative direction,” HBO explained in a statement. “The production will be adjusting its cast and crew accordingly to best serve this new approach to the series. We look forward to sharing more information soon.”

In addition to Abel Tesfaye, aka “The Weeknd,” The Idol was created by Sam Levison and Reza Fahim. Amy Seimetz serves as the director. The drama was announced in June of last year and would have consisted of six hour-long episodes aired on HBO. Most of the episodes were done filming and now will have to be redone.
The cast consists of The Weeknd, Lily-Rose Depp, Melanie Liburd, Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, Tunde Adebimpe, Steve Zissis, Suzanna Son, Nico Hiraga, and Anne Heche. Even though character roles are being kept secret, we do know that Lily-Rose will be starring as the lead character. It is currently unknown which cast and crew members will be replaced.

The drama revolves around a self-help guru/cult leader who develops a roller-coaster romance with a rising pop singer. The show is supposed to take place in modern-day Los Angeles. The series will mainly focus on the guru/cult leader’s relationship with the pop star.
