The new Warner Bros.’ Barbie will be pulling up in her pink convertible only in theaters on July 21, 2023. The film features a star-studded cast that includes Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling (Ken), America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Hari Nef, Alexandra Shipp, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, Simu Liu, and Will Ferrell.

On March 26, the first-look photo of Margot Robbie as Barbie surfaced. The Birds of Prey actress embodies the iconic Barbie doll: She’s a blonde bombshell with piercing blue eyes. The stunning photo features the actress behind the wheel of her legendary pink convertible, wearing a big smile. She is dressed in blue from head to toe, including a bracelet and polka dot headband.

Although grateful for the role, Robbie has expressed the pressure of transforming the plastic doll into a live-action film. In an interview with Vogue, she states, Right, it comes with a lot of baggage! And a lot of nostalgic connections. But with that comes a lot of exciting ways to attack it. People generally hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be,’ and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ‘Oh, well, maybe I don’t…’”

Greta Gerwig, the woman behind films like Lady Bird and Little Women, penned the Barbie screenplay alongside Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story). Gerwig is directing, and Robbie is producing. Other producers who have boarded the Barbie film include LuckyChap’s Tom Ackerley, Mattel’s Robbie Brenner, and David Heyman for Heyday Films. Furthermore, LuckyChap’s Josey McNamara and Mattel’s Ynon Kreiz will serve as executive producers.

We cannot be more excited to watch Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of Barbie. It truly is Barbie’s world; we’re all just living in it.
