Angel Olsen Shares New Music Video for ‘Big Time’
Angel Olsen is back with new music. The “All The Good Times” singer released the title track to her forthcoming sixth studio album, Big Time, out June 3 via Jagjaguwar Records.
Angel Olsen released “All the Good Times,” the first single off Big Time, on March 29. Big Time is an emotional record for the singer, coming at a time in her life when she was finally learning to understand who she was as a queer woman while also experiencing a profound sense of loss. Her journey has not been an easy one, and her record is the product of her trauma.
Olsen took to Instagram, writing, “I am thrilled with the way this record sounds and feels. I really felt loved and supported by the people who shared the Big Time record-making experience with me. I hope you can share it with someone special too…”
As with the “All The Good Times” music video, “Big Time” is also directed by Kimberly Stuckwisch, Olsen’s friend and collaborator. Stuckwisch states of the title track, “For “Big Time,” we set out to celebrate how humans identify and to subvert the old-fashioned gender binary and societal/internalized gender roles of the past through choreography, color, and wardrobe. To exist outside strict definitions is powerful and often not given a place in cinema.”
Stuckwisch breaks down the video, revealing, “In the first rotation, the lighting is drab, the clothes are monochromatic, the dance is monotonous… Gender-conforming roles are present. However, with each rotation, something magical happens, both our cast and Angel begin to come alive to feel free. We see the clothes brighten, the dance heightens, and the bar that was once devoid of emotion can barely contain the joy bursting out of each individual.”
“Big Time” features choreography by Monika Felice Smith. The singer took to Instagram to write, “Thank you to the actors and dancers and crew for making this song come alive.” She also thanks Stuckwisch for “putting it all together and making these dreams come alive.”
