“Have Mercy” singer Chloe Bailey is expected to star in the youth choir comedy, Praise This.

The comedy film is based on the world of youth choirs involved in a music competition. Deadline broke the news of this casting as they stated, “Universal is eyeing it for a potential franchise in the vein of Pitch Perfect.”

Praise This will be directed by Tina Gordon (Little), who also drafted the latest script for the film. The screenplay is based on an idea from The Story Company, a UK-based content company involved in developing scripts for start-up production companies. Camilla Blackett, Brandon Broussard, Hudson Obayuwana, and Jana Savage also drafted manuscripts for the film.

This wouldn’t be the “Have Mercy” singer’s first role in the TV and film industry. Her latest TV role was in the Black-ish spin-off, Grown-ish. Bailey also had roles in Disney film, Let It Shine (2012) and Tyler Perry’s Meet The Browns (2008).

Praise This will be part of Will Packer’s production company, Packer Productions, under Packer’s deal with Universal. Packer will produce alongside The Story Company CEO, Tim Story. The production company’s most notable works are The Wedding Ringer, Think Like a Man film series, Ride Along series, etc.
