Country icon Dolly Parton is officially making rock and roll history. The “Jolene” singer will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this fall after all. She will be honored alongside Lionel Richie, Duran Duran, Eminem, Eurythmics, Carly Simon, and Pat Benatar in Los Angeles on November 5.

The singer initially tried to decline her nomination back in March but went on to have a change of heart. Parton revealed that she wanted to “gracefully bow out of her nomination,” but her plea to decline the nomination was too late.

In April, just one month after attempting to remove herself from the ballot, she revealed why she changed her mind to NPR’s Morning Edition.

She states, “I’ll accept gracefully. I’ll just say, ‘Thanks,’ and I’ll accept it because the fans vote. But when I said that, it was always my belief that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was for the people in rock music. And I have found out lately that it’s not necessarily that, but if they can’t go there to be recognized, where do they go? I just felt like I would be taking away from someone that maybe deserved it, certainly more than me, ’cause I never considered myself a rock artist. But obviously, there’s more to it than that.”

On May 4, Parton took to Instagram once more to thank the fans for voting her through. She shares that she is both “honored” and “humbled” to be inducted. She also adds that she will “continue to work hard and try to live up to the honor.”

Congratulations to Dolly Parton and the rest of the extraordinary artists inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2022. Be sure to follow the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for more music updates.
