The Met Pays Tribute to Rihanna With New Virtual Statue

While we were all sad not to see Rihanna at the 2022 Met Gala, her virtual marble statue may just be the biggest star. The Met and Vogue collaborated to create a stunning virtual marble statue of pregnant Rihanna in the Greek and Roman collections of the museum. Her marble statue represents Eirene, the goddess of peace.

The statue was designed after Rihanna’s photoshoot with Vogue back in April. On the magazine cover, Rihanna looks stunning as usual in a red floral-pattern Alaïa bodysuit with matching gloves that shows her pregnant stomach fashionably.

In an interview with Vogue, Rihanna stated, “I’m hoping that we were able to redefine what’s considered ‘decent’ for pregnant women… My body is doing incredible things right now, and I’m not going to be ashamed of that. This time should feel celebratory. Because why should you be hiding your pregnancy?”

“The statue of “Eirene (The Personification of Peace)” is usually the highest-profile marble goddess @themetmuseum Greco-Roman galleries. But now we’ve got @badgalriri, straight off this month’s Vogue cover,” Vogue’s Instagram caption reads.

Even Rihanna herself is in awe of the marble statue. “Shut down the met in marble! what’s more gilded than that? Lol! Thank you @themetmuseum and @voguemagazine for this historic tribute! y’all bad for this one!” she wrote in a recent tweet. It’s as if the statue was always there.

It’s safe to say that Rihanna is the queen of the Met Gala. While she wasn’t able to attend the Met this time, she is still the talk of the show.
