On Wednesday, May 18, Republic Records announced that TWICE member, Nayeon, would embark on her solo career with the mini album IM NAYEON

Nayeon’s first solo mini-album will debut on June 24. The first official teaser was released on Instagram, where Nayeon was clad in a yellow tutu and white Supreme Air Force 1’s complete with yellow ribbons throughout her hair. Her debut title, IM NAYEON, is an obvious play on words that both displays her name and introduces her as a solo artist: “I’m Nayeon.” ONCEs (TWICE’s fandom name) speculate the album to be an upbeat and colorful debut.

Nayeon is the first TWICE member to go solo, which could open the gateway to other members having their time individually in the spotlight. The nine-member group was formed from JYP Entertainment’s survival show SIXTEEN and currently includes Jihyo, Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu. Each member has displayed unique talents since their debut with “Like Ooh-Ahh” in 2015.

TWICE has garnered mass success among domestic and international audiences for their catchy and unique sound. Last November, the group returned with the full album Formula of Love: O+T=<3, and recently concluded their fourth world tour, “III,” which spanned from December 25th to July. TWICE has been one of the many reigning third-generation girl groups that continues to dominate the K-pop industry, which left high expectations for Nayeon’s debut release.

TWICE is set to release their most recent Japanese comeback, Celebrate, on July 27, a month after Nayeon’s debut. TWICE is also slated to release a mini album “BETWEEN 1&2” on August 26. Check out Nayeon’s Instagram and TWICE’s Twitter for more information on upcoming projects. Fans will be able to stream IM NAYEON and Celebrate on all major platforms.
