Olsen’s album arrived on June 3. Big Time is emotional for the “All the Flowers” singer, coming at a time in her life when she was in the process of understanding herself as a queer woman while simultaneously experiencing the loss of both her parents just two weeks apart. Despite her unimaginable loss, the singer took to Instagram to express how healing the recording process was. She reveals, “I am thrilled with the way this record sounds and feels. I really felt loved and supported by the people who shared the Big Time record-making experience with me. I hope you can share it with someone special too…”

The release of Big Time comes at a beautiful time, as June is Pride Month. In honor of Pride Month, the singer uploaded an image sharing that she was “coming out… with an album and film on June 3. The Big Time film was directed by Olsen’s friend and collaborator, Kimberly Stuckwisch.

The film producer took to Instagram to write a statement she and Olsen were making for Big Time. She expresses, “Big Time is the story of light versus shadow told through a non-linear surrealist dream space that poses one central dilemma: ‘What lengths must one go through to let go of the past in order to step out of the darkness and accept one’s true self?'” She adds, “It’s a story that targets deep-rooted complexities such as how our unconscious deals with repressed sexual identity, the hardships of letting go of our past selves in order to step into self-actualization, and the guilt we hold when dealing with loss.”

Big Time continues to be praised and celebrated. Jeff Tweedy, frontman of Wilco, shared his rendition of the title track, which Olsen retweeted on her social media. On June 6, the singer performed the title track for Jimmy Kimmel, complete with a string section.
