On Monday afternoon, Joji announced via social media that he would be putting out a new song on June 10. The image posted on Instagram and Twitter shows a close-up of a crocodile eye with the simple caption “Glimpse of Us – out this Friday 12AM ET. Pre-save link in bio.”

Fans on Twitter were very excited to hear that the “SLOW DANCING IN THE DARK” singer was putting out new music and was back on social media.

In his new track, the 29-year-old artist sings about being unable to forget the connections and feelings he had with a past lover while being in a relationship with someone else. Compared to his other singles that are more upbeat, the song starts with a simple and beautiful piano ballad, which continues as the only instrument throughout the piece.

“Glimpse of Us” seems like it’s the first single released for his next album, which is rumored to be titled Smithereens because of a recent tour announcement that was also released on Friday. An official music video directed by Dan Streit was also posted on YouTube.

On Friday, June 10 at 12:05 am ET, Joji tweeted a clip from the song’s official music video, announcing that the track was finally out. Many fans replied with memes about how heartbreaking, but beautiful the track is.

Nonetheless, reactions to the song have been very positive on social media. Many fans seem to be proud of Joji and look forward to his new project.

Better known by his stage name Joji and by his former online characters Filthy Frank and Pink Guy, George Kusunoki Miller is a Japanese singer, songwriter, and producer signed under 88rising. His most popular songs include “SLOW DANCING IN THE DARK,” “YEAH RIGHT,” and “Sanctuary,” which all have over 350 million streams on Spotify

The 29-year-old singer began his career as a comedian on his old YouTube channel TVFilthyFrank, which is now deleted. In late 2017, he retired from comedy to focus on a serious music career; releasing his debut EP In Tongues in November 2017 and his first studio album BALLADS 1 in October 2018. In September 2020, Joji released his second studio album Nectar. All of his projects are under the record label 88rising.

The artist will be making appearances at music festivals this year such as New York City’s Governors Ball Music Festival in June, 88rising’s Head in the Clouds Festival in August, and Day N Vegas in early September. Joji will begin his SMITHEREENS tour on September 1st in Palo Alto, California. Fans can register to access tickets for this tour here.

At Glitter, we are so excited to see what other projects Joji has in store. Fans can watch the official music video for “Glimpse of Us” down below.
