Put on your Joker face. Joaquin Phoenix is returning to Todd Phillips’ Joker madness, and this time, Phillips may be bringing in someone special: Lady Gaga.

On June 7, Todd Phillips shared a promising new update on the Joker sequel. The filmmaker provided fans with two photos: a script of Joker: Folie à Deux, and an image of Joaquin Phoenix reading over the script. This confirmed all fans needed to know: Joker is coming.

Phillips has not disclosed plot details for the upcoming film, but he may have given away an important clue regarding a very important character in the DC Comics. The film’s title, Folie à Deux, is a medical term that refers to a shared delusional disorder. The only other person that can relate to Joker is Harley Quinn, who has had an extensive on-off relationship with him. Quinn was initially his psychiatrist at the Arkham Asylum, but she fell in love with him and vowed to be his partner in crime.

The role of Harley Quinn is associated with Margot Robbie, who has embodied the fierce character in three films: Suicide Squad (2016), Birds of Prey (2020), and The Suicide Squad (2021). Robbie would not play the character this time around, though. Lady Gaga, the music icon-turned actress, is said to be “in talks” to play the legendary role. If Gaga closes the deal, Harley Quinn will exist “in a different DC universe than Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn.”

Phillips’ sequel is also said to be a musical, proving to be an interesting, yet exciting choice. We cannot be more excited to get more updates about Joker: Folie à Deux. In the meantime, Joker is available to stream on HBO Max. Check out the Warner Brothers title release trailer below.
