Two years ago, Netflix announced its collaboration with Sony to create a new film from Roald Dahl’s West End musical based on the 1988 children’s book. The audience will be taken on a journey as we meet the title character Matilda, whose intelligence is beyond her years, but her parents see it as a threat rather than a gift. With a lack of care at home and a terrifying Head Mistress, Matilda turns to books as her escape.

Netflix recently released the trailer, and it is shaping up to be an exceptional film. At the top of the teaser, we see a slew of children running to their designated spot, and for the first time of many, Miss Trunchbull scolds Matilda. Afterward, the same sea of kids run to their assigned classrooms while chanting the spelling of Matilda.

They quickly move into synchronized, choreographed sections while speeding through several scenes from the sunset to the stage and the classroom. The trailer is complete with easter eggs that any fan could spot, like the delectable chocolate cake and Mr. Wormwood’s hair that has been tampered with.

The stellar cast includes No Time To Die star Lashana Lynch who will portray the shy yet warmhearted teacher, Miss Honey. Oscar-winner Emma Thompson will take on the role of the petrifying principal Miss Trunchbull, and newcomer Alisha Weir will star as Matilda herself.

After a number of remakes and adaptations, the 2022 version of Matilda will become a classic for viewers of all ages, so grab the family and be to check out the new Matilda film on December 2 on Netflix. Check out the trailer below.
