On July 3rd, the 90’s pop band Backstreet Boys surprised their audience by sharing the stage with Drake at their Toronto concert.

Drake’s back and Backstreet’s back, too.

Performing in Toronto, the concert took a surprising twist when Drake stepped onstage.

Recently, Drake has been busy. The Toronto resident dropped his seventh studio album, Honestly, Nevermind, on June 17th. Over two weeks later, the album still sits comfortably on Spotify’s Top 5 Chart.

The auditorium thundered with excitement; posts exploded across the internet about Drake’s appearance.

Affirmed by People magazine, Drake stated onstage, “At 13 years old, I had a bar mitzvah, and at my bar mitzvah, for the first time in my life, this girl I was in love with came up to me while one of the greatest songs in the world was playing.”

The greatest song he referred to was none other than the boyband’s love song, “I Want It That Way.” Released in 1999, the song became an instant hit. For many, the love-sick ballad holds a lot of meaning, especially to Drake.

He elaborated onstage, “And she asked me if I would dance with her. It was the first time I ever felt acknowledged, and it was the first time I ever felt like, you know, I had a shot at being cool.”

Drake harmonized while the Backstreet Boys took the wheel. But, towards the end, the rapper weaved in snippets of his own song, “Hold On We’re Going Home.”

All About Backstreet Boys

Backstreet Boys were one of the hottest bands of the 90s. After releasing their self-titled album in 1996, the band immediately gained stardom. With hits like “Everybody” and “As Long as You Love Me,” the boyband cemented itself in pop culture.

Years ago, the beloved band announced the DNA World Tour. In May 2019, the band toured around the globe in countries like Germany, Japan, and the United States. Sadly, the pandemic cut the tour short. After a two-year hiatus, Backstreet Boys resumed their worldwide tour.  Starting in Las Vegas, the band weaved its way through the United States and Canada.
