Adele Defends Her Decision to Postpone Her Las Vegas Residency

After receiving brutal backlash from fans, Adele went on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs to defend her decision to postpone her Las Vegas residency.

“I definitely felt everyone’s disappointment,” Adele told BBC’s Lauren Laverne. “I thought I could pull it together and make it work, and I couldn’t, and I stand by that decision.

The 34-year-old singer was referring to when she postponed her “Weekends with Adele” shows 24 hours before opening night back in January. She posted a tearful video on Instagram, explaining the reasons why she canceled the shows.

“My show ain’t ready…half my crew, half my team are down with COVID. They still are and it’s been impossible to finish the show,” Adele explains in the video. “I’m so upset and I’m really embarrassed and I’m so sorry to everyone who’s traveled again.”

On Friday, Adele admitted to BBC that “the show was not good enough,” and possibly remaining silent after the backlash did not help either.

“I was a shell of a person for a couple months,” the “Rolling in the Deep” singer stated. “I just had to wait it out and just grieve it. Just grieve the shows and get over the guilt, but it was brutal.”

“Weekends with Adele” was announced in November 2021, after she released 30, her fourth studio album. She was set to perform every Friday and Saturday at The Colosseum in Caesars Palace starting January 21st to April 16th.

On July 1 & 2, Adele performed her first in-person concert in five years at Hyde Park in London. She told Friday’s audience that she will be announcing new U.S dates “very, very soon.”

While waiting for Adele to announce the new dates for “Weekends with Adele,” fans can listen to her most recent album 30 here and watch a video of her singing “Someone Like You” at Hyde Park.
