Brunson received nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series, Lead Actress in a Comedy, and Writing for a Comedy Series, which all came from her sitcom Abbott Elementary. Brunson not only starred in the hit ABC sitcom but also created it. The 32-year-old actress and comedian also became the youngest Black woman to be nominated in the acting category for a comedy. Brunson shared her gratitude for the nominations on Twitter.

Brunson used her Philadelphia roots to create the hit sitcom, which focuses on a set of teachers who are trying to ensure the success of Philadelphia public school students.

The sitcom stars Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Lisa Ann Walter, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Chris Perfetti. Brunson stars as Janine Teagues, a second-grade teacher at Abbott Elementary, an under-funded elementary school located in Philadelphia. Teagues hopes to help her students succeed despite the difficult circumstances. Creating a similar atmosphere as The Office, Teagues and the other teachers are followed around by a documentary crew to show the lives of teachers.

Fans and other stars alike took to share their excitement for the actress.

Brunson wasn’t the only one from the sitcom that was nominated for the 2022 Emmy Awards. Joining the lead actress, three other stars from the show scored nominations as well.

Tyler James Williams, who stars as Gregory Eddie, a substitute first-grade teacher at Abbott Elementary who has hopes of becoming a school principal, scored a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Janelle James stars as Ava Coleman, Abbott Elementary’s school principal that enjoys picking on her coworkers, while doing very little for the school.  James earned her first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Sheryl Lee Ralph also scored her first Emmy nomination for the same category for her performance as Barbara Howard. Her character is a veteran Kindergarten teacher who is one of Janine’s role models.

Overall, Abbott Elementary earned a total of seven Emmy nominations from the Television Academy.

Here at Glitter, we are so excited for Brunson, and this amazing accomplishment she has achieved. Abbott Elementary Season 2 will premiere on September 21, 2022. Until the premiere and the Emmy Awards, fans can stream the first season of Abbott Elementary on ABC or Hulu
