Trailer Drops for Issa Rae’s New HBO Max Comedy
An Issa Rae production will be gracing our screens once again with her new comedy Rap Sh!t. HBO Max released the trailer for the new series Tuesday, July 5.
The HBO Max original premieres July 21 and stars Aida Osman as Shawna and KaMillion as Mia. The series follows the two former high school friends, Shawna and Mia, who reunite to form a rap duo. They strive to achieve success in the Miami music scene, balancing each other out as a pair. The comedy stars Jonica Booth, Devon Terrell, and RJ Cyler as well.

In addition to Rae, City Girl’s JT and Yung Miami are credited as co-executive producers. Sara Rastogi of Hoorae, Kevin “Coach K” Lee, and Pierre “P” Thomas of Quality Control Films are credited as well.
Issa Rae previously found success with HBO with her series Insecure. Rae achieved critical acclaim for her comedy, serving as the leading character, in addition to co-creating and co-writing. The final season of the series ended in December 2021, just in time for Rae to shift focus to this new project.
If Insecure and the new trailer are any indication, the comedy is sure to be full of laughter, heart, and strong female friendship.
Along with co-producing, Rae also wrote the series’ pilot, and co-wrote its finale. She tweeted a link to the trailer writing, “Something for the Summer!”
