DIGITAL COVER: VIVIZ Talks New Mini-Album Summer Vibe
VIVIZ, the three-member group consisting of SinB, Eunha, and Umji, brought their stellar track “BOP BOP!” into the world early this year with their debut mini-album Beam of Prism. The girls descended into a fantastical and bright universe that immediately shook the K-pop industry. Their performance expertise landed them on the Mnet survival show Queendom 2, and on July 6, released their first comeback Summer Vibe.
We were given the opportunity to chat with the girls about their current interests, underlying passions, and hopes for the future.
GLITTER: Congratulations on your debut, VIVIZ.
GLITTER: After working in the music industry and gaining experience, has the production process become easier?
SINB: I can’t say that the production process has become easier, but I think we started being able to participate in the production process as we gained more experience and put out more of our opinions. Frankly, the production process is still not easy as always.
GLITTER: Were you able to be hands-on with the production aspects of the debut, including song lyrics and stylistic choices in your wardrobe?
UMJI: We exchanged feedback on the songs and monitored each other. We actively participated even during the production by sharing opinions with the people in our company. In addition, we also participated a bit in the writing of the lyrics and composing.
GLITTER: What are your thoughts on how the K-pop music scene has evolved over time?
SINB: Watching the development of K-Pop that our sunbaenims (“sunbaenim”: a more experienced person within a workforce, school, group, etc.) have been building, I am extremely honored and proud to be a part of it. We, VIVIZ, are trying our best to contribute to K-pop’s development.
GLITTER: What made you decide on the idea of Beam of Prism for your debut?
UMJI: Although the label suggested the ideas for the album’s title, we all agreed to it since we thought it fit the meaning of the album and all of the tracks really well.
GLITTER: What new styles of music are you all open to experimenting with?
SINB: We’re still in the process of finding our color as VIVIZ, I want to experiment with various types of music. For example, since we showed our bubbly side with “BOP BOP!,” it would be wonderful to show a more dreamy side of VIVIZ in our next work.
GLITTER: There are seven songs in your first mini-album. What are each of your favorite tracks, and why?
EUNHA: I think all of the tracks are good, but I will choose “Lemonade,” a song that is cute, sweet, and bitter, as my favorite song. Even the choreography… really cute.
SINB: I like “Tweet Tweet” because it’s a song that makes me imagine the performance for it. I hope we can show this song to Na.V someday soon.
UMJI: Although I like all the tracks, I would recommend “Love You Like” since it is our very first song that was made for our fans. This song is the only song in the album with a calm mood, and it’s soothing. Therefore, I want to choose this song to recommend.
GLITTER: Who are some of your biggest influences in the music industry, both domestically and internationally?
EUNHA: We are influenced by so many artists, but the people who directly influence us the most are our fans. VIVIZ is able to move forward, all thanks to their support.
GLITTER: What makes VIVIZ stand out from other girl groups?
EUNHA: I believe that the three of us make the best team while we are very different from each other! Thanks to our eight years together, we understand each other so well and are always supportive of one another. I’m sure that people will like that about us.
GLITTER: VIVIZ will finally collaborate with the American DJ Yves V on your title track, “BOP BOP!” as an entryway into the international music scene. What are you looking forward to as you expand into the broader music market?
EUNHA: First of all, it is the first time for us to have our title track made into a remix version, so we’re very excited to be experiencing diverse music like this, and we’re really looking forward to it.
GLITTER: VIVIZ is currently participating in the survival show Queendom 2. What have been a few learning experiences that the show has taught you all?
UMJI: I realized that so many teams are working hard while having great affection in their group. Also, I think that many groups, besides the teams in Queendom 2, are like that as well. My experience in Queendom 2 allowed me to start hoping for more opportunities for hard-working teams to have in showcasing their amazing performances.
GLITTER: Will you ever embark on a world tour? If so, where are some of the places you would all like to visit?
UMJI: Actually, there are so many places I would like to visit. I want to meet the fans from the countries I’ve never been to, but I also want to meet the fans that we haven’t got to meet for a while.
SINB: Since it’s been a while since we went on a tour, I think it would be great to go to any country. Hope to see you soon Na.V all over the world.
EUNHA: Oh my gosh, a world tour. It would be fantastic to go to any country, but since there are so many countries where we haven’t performed before, I would like to go to a country with a lot of Na.V who we haven’t been able to meet yet.
GLITTER: Share a little information about yourselves, such as each of your favorite activities to do during your downtime?
UMJI: All of us like to rest at home! I spend my downtime eating strong-flavored foods without stressing over it, catching up with content that I’d been wanting to watch, going on walks, and hanging out with friends. I like to fully relax.
GLITTER: Eunha is known to love cooking. What are some of your favorite dishes to cook? What sorts of Korean dishes would you recommend to international audiences?
EUNHA: My favorite dish to cook is curry! I tend to also cook what I feel like eating by searching up the recipes on YouTube. A Korean dish I want to recommend to international audiences is dak-bokkeum-tang (spicy chicken stew)! The sauce that’s spicy yet sweet goes so well with chicken!
GLITTER: Umji, what are some of your favorite TV shows and movies? What shows that you are currently watching? Which ones would you recommend to your fans?
UMJI: Recently, I binge-watched the Harry Potter series!! I love it! There’s a reason people think of it as a masterpiece, haha! My favorite movies are those that have excellent music, such as Sound of Music and High School Musical.
GLITTER: Glitter has a celebrity self-love campaign we started in 2015. What is one piece of advice you would give your fans on self-love and loving who they are?
SINB: Always remember that you are the only person in this world who can love you and have your back unconditionally. I love me.
GLITTER: If you have already started working on your first comeback, can you give your fans a spoiler?
UMJI: We’re currently working hard on our comeback. To give a bit of a spoiler, I think the seasonal vibe in the upcoming album will be what stands out! Hope you look forward to a VIVIZ summer.
GLITTER: What is one last thing you would like to share with your fans?
EUNHA: Our beloved Na.V, we are going to work hard to keep you from becoming bored, so please keep yourself safe from the heat, and send us lots of love and support. We love you.
GLITTER: Thank you so much for sharing a sneak peek into your lives, VIVIZ.
