Japanese Breakfast Shares New Korean Version of ‘Be Sweet’

Dead Oceans/ Peter Adh Lee

Japanese Breakfast frontwoman Michelle Zauner delivered a new rendition of “Be Sweet,” and it is almost as sweet as persimmons, the vivid orange fruit that is considered a staple of their Jubilee era. The song was a hit single off the band’s third studio album released in June 2021.

Michelle Zauner took to Instagram on July 20 to announce the “Be Sweet” (Korean Version). Zauner, who is Korean-American, expressed to fans how elated she was to share this new version with fans. She states, “We thought it would be fun to put out a special Korean version of “Be Sweet“ preceding our upcoming performance in Seoul. I’m very grateful Yaeji helped me with the translation over a year ago. So!YoON! is one of my favorite indie artists in Seoul right now and I’m so happy we got to collab.”

Japanese Breakfast released Jubilee in June 2021. The record earned the band their first Grammy nominations for Best Alternative Album and Best New Artist. In addition to this honor, Billboard recognized Jubilee as one of the best albums of 2021.

The single “Be Sweet” is a pop sensation. The band released a music video for the lead single, and now the Korean Version has one. The Korean Version is a purple-hued trip. Zauner and So!YoON! are present in the video, starring as adorable, animated versions of themselves.

Japanese Breakfast continues to celebrate the Jubilee era and we could not be happier. “Be Sweet” (Korean Version) is yet another bop to add to your summer playlist. The video is available to watch above. Jubilee is available to stream on all major music platforms.
