The Linda Lindas Release New Cover of ‘Tonite’

CBS/ Ginger Canzoner

The Linda Lindas, an all-female punk-rock band, released a cover of “Tonite” by The Go-Go’s. The quartet wanted to pay homage to their favorite female band.

On July 26, The Linda Lindas took to Instagram to announce that they released a studio version of “Tonite.” The young pre-teen and teen punk rockers began their musical journey as a cover band but quickly began writing their own songs. The cover that always seemed to make its way into the band’s setlist remained the same: “Tonite.” The band writes, “Because the cover is such a hit at shows, we decided to record a studio version to pay tribute to the greatest all-female rock band of all time, a crucial part of the L.A. punk scene, and our heroes.”

The track “Tonite” appears on The Go-Go’s debut studio album, Beauty and the Beat, released in 1981. The band was formed in 1978 and consists of members Belinda Carlisle, Charlotte Caffey, Gina Schock, Kathy Valentine, and Jane Wiedlin.

The Go-Go’s were recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2021, where they joined Tina Turner, Carole King, Jay-Z, Foo Fighters, and Todd Rundgren. The band writes, “Women have always been a vital part of the ever-changing music business and we are so proud to have our success story honored and recognized by the @rockhall and our wonderful fans. Thank you all so much!”

The Linda Lindas released their debut album, Growing Up, in April. The proud Asian-American and Latino band continues to become a worldwide hit. They have embarked on their own tour and have played as opening acts for Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and Japanese Breakfast.

The Linda Lindas are pure rock stars. The all-female band is grateful to The Go-Go’s for paving the way for women who want a career in the music business. Both versions of “Tonite” are available to stream on all major music platforms.
