A new Maggie Rogers era is upon us. The “Horses” singer is back with her most ambitious record to date, Surrender.

Maggie Rogers excitedly took to Instagram on July 29 to unveil Surrender, her sophomore album. She told fans that she is “so proud of this record and hopes that her fans love her [Surrender] as much as I do.” Her record was born during quarantine amidst the pandemic.

Rogers blames the stillness of the pandemic for resulting in a loud album. She elaborates more on this idea, stating, “I wanted to make something that I felt really physically. I felt really homesick for music festivals, too. I wanted a record that would be really fun to play live. It was that hopeful [the idea of] this will end, touring will come back, and I will get to go play these loud, energetic songs that I can feel so deeply within my body. I really thought I made an angry record, and when I listen back now, it sounds super joyful.”

After three years away from the music scene, the “Alaska” singer had a lot to say. She reveals, “It felt really empowering to tell the truth in that way, and to acknowledge the fact that I’ve grown up, and I’m going to talk about exactly what my life looks like.” In 2019, she released her debut record, Heard It in a Past Life. She was nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammys shortly after the release of the critically-acclaimed album.

On the 12-track record, Rogers collaborated with her sorceress sister, Florence Welch. Both singers recorded their records at the iconic Electric Lady; therefore, the women decided to sing over each other’s songs. Welch’s band released Dance Fever in May with Rogers appearing on tracks “Dream Girl Evil” and “Girls Against God.” Welch sings and plays the tambourine on Rogers’ “Shatter.”

It is official, Maggie Rogers is back and better than ever, with Surrender being the album of the summer. Fans can stream Surrender on all major music platforms.
