Demi Lovato Adopted New Pronouns
After Demi Lovato recently updated her pronouns on her Instagram, the singer announced that she is adding she/her pronouns to her gender identifiers. In May 2021, she came out as non-binary with the video below, using they/them pronouns.
Every day we wake up, we are given another opportunity & chance to be who we want & wish to be. I’ve spent the majority of my life growing in front of all of you… you’ve seen the good, the bad, & everything in between. pic.twitter.com/HSBcfmNruo

The singer confessed in an interview with Spout Podcast that she has “been feeling more feminine” and, therefore, started using she/her as well. “I’m such a fluid person that I don’t find that I am…I felt like, especially last year, my energy was balanced in my masculine and feminine energy. So that when I was faced with the choice of walking into a bathroom and it said women and men, I didn’t feel like there was a bathroom for me because I didn’t feel necessarily like a woman, I didn’t feel like a man,” she told the host.
“But I think what’s important is, like, nobody’s perfect. Everyone messes up pronouns at some point and especially when people are learning. It’s just all about respect,” Lovato continued. She not only explained her decision but also, emphasized the importance of gender fluidity which helps one to feel “authentic and true to the person I both know I am and still am discovering.” This led her to update her pronouns on her Instagram as “they/them/she/her.”
Lovato is working on her new album HOLY FVCK, which is set to drop on August 19. Fans should stay tuned for her star-studded featuring list, including Yungblud, Royal & The Serpent, and Dead Sara.
