Despite previous criticism, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have returned to the U.K. to attend the 2022 One Young World Summit in hopes of inspiring the great minds of tomorrow.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, former “senior members” of the British Royal family, are famously known for using their platform to make their voices heard. In January 2020, the pair shocked the world with their decision to renounce their right to the throne and all related royal duties.

Criticism of all bouts came their way from both American and British media outlets. The couple implied throughout their 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey that the main factor in their withdrawal from British High Society was the racism Meghan experienced. Watch an exclusive clip from the interview down below.

Although many historians refute the claim that she is the first Black British royal, she is the first Black woman to hold the title in our lifetime. Throughout their relationship, Prince Harry released several public statements defending his wife’s honor against racist media and civilians. However surprising, they experienced further racism within their family, revealing awkward conversations about their unborn son’s skin color in the interview.

It remains one of the most dramatic ensuing events for the family since King Edward VIII renounced the throne to marry an American woman in 1936. However, the couple found enough strength in their love to continue expressing their grievances with their roles/ duties. As a result of their bravery, conversations about tradition, race, social standing, etc., have come to the forefront of British media in ways they haven’t before.

According to People, Meghan turned her darkest moments into her superpower with her return to the 2022 One Young World Summit stage. Each year, 2,000+ young, bright leaders join together globally to obtain skills on how to “accelerate social impact.”

Distinguished delegates, like Meghan, from around the world nourish these young minds through workshops and speeches. Markle is a biracial American-born actress and activist known for her passionate endeavors to speak out about women’s rights. Her newly released Spotify podcast, Archetypes, awards her a platform to advocate for women’s rights while speaking alongside other influential women like Serena Williams, Mariah Carey, and Mindy Kaling.

In a striking red suit, Markle delivered a compelling opening speech that encouraged young leaders to appreciate their present efforts toward social change. As many young people know, the pressure of potential future accomplishments can be looming. She insisted that the bravery to face every day head-on is equally as important as any potential future feats.

The Dutchess went on to share her experience as a first-time delegate in 2014, which at the time felt undeserved. Most importantly, at the heart of her speech lay the desire to leave her young audience with the knowledge that they deserve every space they occupy, especially when they are consistent in their efforts toward social change.
