Kelly Clarkson, the first American Idol, was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on September 19. This recognition is a long time coming for the singer, who is celebrating twenty years in the entertainment industry.

Ana Martinez, a producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, expressed support for Clarkson’s well-deserved star. She states, “She has been an iconic person in American pop culture since she walked onto the first audition stage on American Idol and has continued to impress fans with her musical and talk show prowess.”

The “Because Of You” hitmaker took to Instagram on September 4 to reflect on winning the first season of American Idol in 2002. She writes that winning the show “forever changed the course of her life.”

Since winning American Idol, Clarkson has garnered many accolades. She is a recipient of three Grammy Awards, four American Music Awards, three MTV Video Music Awards, two Academy of Country Music Awards, and two American Country Awards. More recently, she was awarded a Daytime Emmy Award for outstanding entertainment talk show host for her program, The Kelly Clarkson Show.

In addition to television, the singer was also a coach on The Voice for eight seasons, winning four of them. She made The Voice history with Brynn Cartelli in Season 14, who was the youngest contestant. She later won with Chevel Shepherd (Season 15), Jake Hoot (Season 17), and Girl Named Tom (Season 21).

Clarkson began her speech, stating, “This is where I won 20 years ago. I feel very lucky and fortunate because I know a lot of talented people that love singing and are amazing at it and writing songs, and even talk show hosts — a lot of people could do that, and I just feel very fortunate that I get the chance. There are dreams you didn’t know you had and they end up happening and you feel super blessed.” Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell, and Randy Jackson, the original judges on American Idol in Season 1, were there in attendance.

Here at Glitter, we congratulate Kelly Clarkson on an incredible twenty years in the music industry. We wish her continued success in her music and talk show career.
