On the second day of the festival, Musgraves added Cruz’s name to the end of a line in her hit song “High Horse.” She stated, “everyone knows someone who kills the buzz/ every time they open up their mouth… Ted Cruz.” Following the diss, she added, “I said what I said.”

Fans erupted in cheers and immediately took to social media to praise the dig at the politician. One fan tweeted “you can tell @KaceyMusgraves is a real Texan by the volume of her hair and how much she hates Ted Cruz.”

The Grammy-winning musician is a Texas native and mentions her state in many of her songs. However, this isn’t the first time she publicly expressed her feelings about Cruz.

In February 2021 amid the Texas freeze, Musgraves sold t-shirts trolling Cruz. The shirts read, “Cruzin’ for a Bruzin'” to criticize the senator for vacationing in Cancun during the weather crisis.

Musgraves was not the only performer to make a statement during her set. The Chicks also endorsed Beto O’Rourke for governor of Texas, supporting his continued advocacy for women’s rights.

Kaycee Musgraves has always been vocal about the significance of voting. Election day starts on November 8. Audiences have the chance to cast ballots to choose their preferred political candidates. Aspiring voters can check their registration status here.
