Good Omens is a fantasy series adapted from a novel of the same name. It was created by fantastical writers Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman in the late 1990s. The story follows a demon named Crowley (David Tennant) and the angel Aziraphale (Micheal Sheen), who seek a way to stop the coming of the Antichrist and the war between Heaven and Hell.

It’s been three years since the dynamic duo prevented the apocalypse, and the two are returning in the new season. While the juicy details of the plot have yet to be revealed, Neil Gaiman appeared at the New York Comic-Con panel to give fans a sneak peek of what’s to come.

In the panel, Gaiman revealed one of the themes of the new season. He states, “I will say there are some love stories in it; I will say you will learn more about Jane Austen you didn’t know before.”

The Good Omens fandom has always been fond of Aziraphale and Crowley’s relationship. Many fans viewed their slow-burn friendship through a romantic lens in the novel and series. A hashtag circulated on Twitter affectionately labeled the comedic duo as #IneffableHusbands. An official poster was released on Instagram showcasing the main characters back to back, with their wings forming a heart shape and blue feathers hovering above their heads. This has led fans into a frenzy, speculating about the demon and angel’s friendship.

Furthermore, Gaiman proclaimed, “Season 2 is kind of quiet and gentle and romantic as opposed to S1.” While it isn’t confirmed who the love story will be about, there’s a chance Aziraphale and Crowley might become more than friends. Fans are gushing at the expectation that the duo’s beloved friendship might turn into a romantic one.

A teaser for the upcoming season was revealed exclusively at New York Comic-Con. While it hasn’t been released to the public yet, Comic-Con attendees gave their insight on the clip on Twitter.

As the panel progressed, Gaiman commented that initially, casting decisions weren’t set in stone. But, he noted, “The truth was Michael was meant to have played Crowley.” David Tenant was cast as Aziraphale before production began. Gaiman then switched the actors’ roles, assigning Aziraphlae to Micheal Sheen and Crowley to David Tenant.

Sheen was able to embody Aziraphale’s optimistic and angelic essence, as well as his subtle hedonistic side, making for a convincing angel. Likewise, David Tenant executed a slick and suave performance of the fallen angel with a swagger-filled walk. More importantly, Tenant and Sheen have incredible chemistry together, showing how both characters care for one another deeply as friends and, as it is possibly being hinted at, something more. Fans can’t imagine this iconic duo portrayed any other way.

In addition, new characters, and new angels, will be introduced in the upcoming season. It has just been announced that Quelin Sepulveda (Who Fell to Earth) will embody the role of the angel, Muriel. Gaiman described the angels of the first season as “b**tards.” He believed there weren’t enough good-natured angels presented in Heaven.

On the other hand, Muriel is the opposite compared to the other divine beings. According to the show’s writer, Muriel is an angel chained to their desk, trying to do what is right. Thus, Gaiman describes them as “very well-meaning.” However, Sepulveda (Muriel) views her character as “gullible” and “chatty.”

In the previous season, actors Maggie Service (Sister Therese Garrulous) and Nina Sosanya (Sister Mary Loquacious) were the Satanic nuns at fault for misplacing the Antichrist. Now, they return to the new season as new characters. Funnily enough, the characters they will be portraying were named after the actors themselves, Maggie and Nina. Gaiman adds, “Writing Maggie and Nina was an absolute dream.” He reveals that Nina will own a coffee shop called “Give Me Coffee Or Give Me Death” near Maggie’s record shop. They’re both in close proximity to Aziraphale. Although not much is known about Maggie and Nina, we can suspect that they will impact Aziraphale’s life in one way or another.

Gaiman has revealed that the new season will contain six episodes and is set to be released in the summer of 2023. Although the teaser clip and plot are still under wraps, audiences have been theorizing non-stop. It’s safe to say the Good Omens fandom is alive and ready for the series to drop its new season. Good Omens Season 2 is simply ineffable.

Fans of the series can purchase the original novel on Amazon and stream the first season of Good Omens on Amazon Prime. In addition, fans can view a clip of Michael Sheen, Jon Hamm, and David Tenant virtually appearing on the New York Comic-Con panel below.
